Welcome to Dr. C. Stephen Foster’s Website on ocular inflammatory disease and immunology!
Dr. Foster founded the MEEI Immunology Service over 30 years ago. He believes in sharing the knowledge, information and technology that has been gained during its years of existence. The training of over 100 fellows from all over the globe, as you will see as you browse through this site, bears testimony to this philosophy and our belief in the effort to eliminate blindness resulting from ocular inflammation. He has now opened a new private Institute, the Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institution (MERSI) , and has formed a tax exempt research and education foundation, the Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation, for the purpose of research and education in ocular immunology and ocular inflammatory diseases. Because only a limited number of Fellows can come and exploit the opportunities in Boston, we use the Information Superhighway (or simply, the Web), the most current, state-of-the-art medium to share information, to further our goal. We do this to reach out to more physicians (especially fellow Ophthalmologists and Immunologists), residents and fellows in training, Medical Universities and Hospitals, allied health professionals and most importantly, our patients.
Short of sounding apologetic, please bear in mind that we are physicians rather than computer specialists. We have, however, tried (and still are trying) our best to make this web experience as “pleasing” to you as possible.
This effort at constructing a website exclusively for Ocular Immunology, we hope, will be instrumental in serving as a medium for increasing the overall pursuit of knowledge regarding controlling, if not altogether eliminating, the potentially blinding ocular inflammatory diseases.
We invite you, our fellow web surfers, to contribute to this Website. Much as the “Internet” belongs to the world, much as we share the common problems of dealing with ocular inflammatory disease and much as we are all citizens of the world, let this be OUR website.
