Mission
The Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation (OIUF) is a national non-profit organization, based at the Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institution in Cambridge, Massachusetts at 5 Cambridge Center.

Our mission is to: 1) improve the diagnosis and treatment and find the causes and cures of uveitis and other ocular inflammatory diseases as well as macular degeneration and corneal and scleral diseases, 2) increase awareness among health professionals and the public, and support individuals and families affected by the diseases. Research, education, and patient services are at the heart of OIUF’s mission and programs.

OIUF is the nation's leading non-profit health organization dedicated to finding the causes and cure for ocular inflammatory and surface diseases and is the only national organization exclusively serving individuals, families and friends affected by such disorders. In addition to the Foundation’s research, education and support services in Cambridge, MA., the OIUF participates in organizing support groups throughout the United States, as well as international affiliates around the world.

OIUF Research and Education

Research projects are targeted at blinding inflammatory eye diseases for which there are currently no cures and for which all preliminary data indicate that abnormal immunoregulation plays a significant role in their pathogenesis. Dr. Foster selects projects based on his experience as a world renowned eye surgeon, a chemotherapist and immunologist. Click here to view current projects.

Education and Outreach
OIUF’s physician education efforts center on training of ophthalmologists who chose additional training in the area of ocular immunology and uveitis through the fellowship training program pioneered by Dr. Foster and through the conduct of continuing medical education (CME) courses for ophthalmologists and for optometrists on the matter of ocular inflammation and corneal disease. Patient Education and outreach efforts take aim at informing and educating patients, their families and healthcare providers about potentially blinding Ocular inflammatory diseases and offering the most advanced information in ocular Immunology.

Uveitis Support Group Fund

The Uveitis support Group Fund helps to support its free resources, which include: online support group page for kids, parents, and adults that are accessible through the world wide web free of charge to anyone living with ocular inflammatory disease; a quarterly Newsletter, six support group meetings at MERSI each year, along with a pediatric conference every other year and a “Walk for Vision.” The group also assists with establishment of support groups around the world, as well as the following important educational and support resources: Parent and Teachers Guide; Ocular Inflammatory Guide(coming soon); and Living with Uveitis Documentary. A new documentary focusing on adults who get uveitis is being developed and will be available in several months.

Bequests or Planned Giving
A planned gift allows a donor to contribute to The Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation over a period of years or as part of an estate plan. Designed correctly it can generate a charitable income tax deduction. Contributions are made in the form of trusts, bequests Click for more information about Bequests or Planned Giving or please contact the Foundation at (617) 494 -1431, ext.112 for Alison Justus.

Volunteer and plan an Event: One of the main goals of the Foundation is to raise money for uveitis and ocular inflammatory and surface disease research. Last year the “Walk for Vision” raised a significant amount of funds to support Dr. Foster's research. It was a 5k walk around the Charles River in Boston. The event was sponsored by a generous grant from Centocor Pharmaceuticals. We are always looking for new ways to raise money and awareness for Ocular Inflammatory and Corneal Diseases and would be most grateful to have your help in creating new innovative fundraising activities.
